LO1 Task 2 Analysis of animation

I watched the first episode of Scooby Doo

Genre
The genre of Scooby Doo is mystery and adventure. The plot for each episode of Scooby Doo always revolves around a mystery that always takes the gang on adventures. This episode of Scooby Doo tell us the genre as the plot is about a mysterious set of knights armor that goes missing and they have to find the culprit, this tells us its mystery as it invokes intrigue. This mystery plot takes the gang on an adventure which tells us that adventure is a key genre of the animation.

Individual Animators
The original animators of Scooby Doo were Joseph Barbera and William Hanna who both worked on all of the projects that came through Hanna-Barbera including the Flintstones, The Jetsens and The Smurfs. Iwoa Takamoto who became vice-president of creative design at Hanna-Barbera after leaving Disney and during this time he worked on various projects that went through his department. As Hanna-Barbera was a small company they had a very small team of animators including the two founders of the company.

Production Process
Pre production for Scooby Doo consists of scriptwriting and storyboarding. Production for Scooby Doo consists of voice recording, layout, animation and ink and paint. The post production for Scooby Doo consists of adding music and sound and editing.

Narrative/Storyline
The story line for this episode of Scooby Doo is about a suit of old armor that is supposedly haunted and makes a professor disappear, naturally as the gang of main characters uncover the vehicle that was transporting the armor they feel the need to investigate the disappearance of the professor, as they investigate they uncover clues, they are lead to a museum. Once there the gang starts to deduce what happened. The episode proceeds with a long chase scene as the gang are chased around the museum by the "haunted" armor, after capturing the armor they lift off the helmet off the armor to reveal that it was the missing professors work colleague who was running a illegal art theft operation inside the museum and had kidnapped the professor. The gang then go on to find the professor and untie him. The storyline of this episode is plot based, however the plots are always very shallow as the plot only needs to last 20 minutes however . The transitions between scenes are always just fades as the animators couldn't really do any other kind of transition due to the technique used to create the animation.

Target Audience
The target audience for Scooby Doo is ages 5-30 as it mostly caters towards the younger target audience but the older audience may still enjoy to watch an occasional episode. The audience would be fans of cartoons and other animated television shows.  This target audience is quite a broad range of ages so the audience could have interests that range from go karting and mystery solving to wine tasting and driving.

Characters/Stars
The main characters are Fred Jones (portrayed by Frank Welker), Daphne Blake (Played by Stefanianna Christopherson), Velma Dinkley (voiced by Nicole Jaffe), Norville "Shaggy" Rogers (Casey Kasem) and Scooby Doo (Don Messick). The roles of these characters is the good guys and the protagonists, these characters stay consistent throughout every episode while the various antagonists change each episode.
